Having been Patrons of the BRDC’s exclusive ‘Young Driver’ Programme for over a decade, AC-ET has supplied the lighting design for the event ever since. Staged within the grounds of the BRDC Farm as part of the Formula 1® Pirelli British Grand Prix weekend, the legendary occasion attracts high-profile members and motorsport personalities.

“It was our absolute pleasure to provide the lighting design as well as equipment for this exciting event, and once again work alongside the wonderful team at the BRDC. It was an amazing feeling to be back out on site doing what we love.” commented AC-ET’s in-house Production Manager, Andy Walne Smith.

As with previous years, there was a large marquee set up within the grounds as a place to relax, socialise and watch the races. In light of the ongoing situation, organisers of the BRDC Grand Prix Party wanted the evening entertainment to take place in the garden. AC-ET were tasked with creating a lighting scheme that added ambiance to the different areas throughout the day and night. To achieve this, they used a number of products from a selection of their exclusive and leading brands, including; Chroma-Q®, PROLIGHTS, Luminex and Vista by Chroma-Q®, to transform both the marquee and garden spaces.

Andy added; “We chose fairly neutral lighting for the daytime scheme inside the marquee, creating a warm white coverage, using Chroma-Q Space Force octo and PROLIGHTS EclPanels. We also used a number of Chroma-Q Color Force II 12” in the reception area to provide a natural white wash. For the indoor evening lighting, we utilised the EclPanel’s extensive colour and effects capabilities to create the party vibe.”

“In the garden there was a beautiful feature flower wall, which we lit with Chroma-Q Color Force II 48”, placed within weatherproof housing. The high-quality white light from these fixtures helped to make the flowers “pop” and enabled party goers to have their photo in front of the wall throughout the event, day and night. Chroma-Q Color One 100 IP and PROLIGHTS SmartBat Plus fixtures were used to highlight different features around the garden, such as statues and sponsors (BMW), cars. In addition to this they were used on the stage with the band and around the DJ to add colour and punch.” Concluded Andy.

All lighting control was done on Vista by Chroma-Q EX consoles. Programming and operating of the inside lighting was done by Jack Moorhouse, AC-ET’s Vista by Chroma-Q product specialist. Regular Vista operator and friend, Steve Heywood, programmed all the garden looks.

Luminex’s GigaCore, LumiNode and LumiSplit provided flexibility, enabling the consoles to control either area and take over at different times if required, which was essential so we were covered for the unpredictable British weather if plans had to be altered at the last minute.

BRDC Club Office Manager, Lisa Benamore commented “The Club would like to thank AC Entertainment Technologies for the stunning lighting display at the BRDC Farm over the 2021 British Grand Prix weekend and for their continued support of the BRDC Young Driver Scheme. The lighting displays just get bigger and better for the Saturday night party and this year was no exception.”
